Publishing Guidelines
First off, a few general observations: Headline Books has accounts established with most national chain book stores (Borders, Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, etc.), and world wide book distributors.
We have produced titles in several different genres (politics, art, current and historical events, spirituality, etc.), so the only restrictions are: 1) must not be X-rated, and 2) must be your work. We are particularly interested in acquiring authors interested in doing workshops, speaking engagements, and school visits.
Most authors consider their work of national importance. Ofttimes, however, the book may lack the universality necessary for national exposure, and is best served to a regional audience where readers share a similar life-style, environment, etc. Moreover, many books are launched regionally and, as sales dictate, may climb to national exposure. This is more a consideration for marketing than it is for damage to an author's ego! If your book has the potential for national appeal, we will be the first to tell you and to offer a contract!
But Headline Books, is just as apt to offer a contract for a book it believes will sell well to a regional audience.
Finally, Headline Books will read any submission you deem worthy. We have twenty-three years of publishing experience and are proud to continue to be accessible to aspiring and established writers alike.
And now for specific guidelines:
1. All submissions must include a return envelope with postage affixed (S.A.S.E.).
2. Do not send an entire book! Typically, a submission should include a one page cover letter (presenting your background, your reason for writing the book, the audience you envision, etc.), an outline and a few sample chapters (the first, a middle and an ending chapter should do). All submissions must be via United States Post Office, no email submissions, please.
3. Please be patient. It takes us a while (maybe several weeks, sometimes several months) to read all that is coming in. We promise, however, that your manuscript will get a fair hearing. If it's rejected, we'll give you an idea as to why it was rejected. (Most likely, the reason will be that we don't see a large enough market for it.)
4. We will consider manuscripts submitted either by individuals or by agents. The S.A.S.E. is essential either way; else we will not return materials.
That's it. We wish you the best in your writing endeavors!
If You Have A Manuscript , Send It Today! (No calls, please.)
We Will Be Happy To Look It Over.
